Gorgeous look into the print shop of the design department at Free People Headquarters
Every now and again you’ll meet that person that has that one gig that they love, like, truly adore. I have to say, I’m definitely one of those people. Amongst the various and sundry other things I do (including a full time gig with a certain tech giant) I am on a team that helps build and design window displays for various shops in the good ole South. I got my start and caught the bug when I worked on a build team for Urban Outfitters in North Carolina.
Urban was an amazing company to work for, I’ve met some of the most beautiful souls working there and was constantly inspired by not only the incredible employees (those hip kids with their style, lit tastes and awesome music mixes) but by the incredible brand itself. As the store set designers we were set with the tasks of taking the overall theme of the corporate design team and using our skills, creativity and passion for dumpster diving and haggling thrift shop owners to create a vision and set for the store. Each build was unique and ever changing. Everyday brought new requests from team leads for new display cases and spaces to display the vast array of beautifully curated wares.
The soul of the brand, the idea we were all working to achieve was one that is really quite unique, the urban hippy. Well versed in the classics, well tuned to the most unique and powerful music stylings of the time and ever on the lookout to try mixing textures, layers, fabric, looks and pieces to fit the personality of our awesome patrons. The brand does an amazing job of creating a whole market of looks and styles that anyone can access. Thus I have been following the YouTube channel that Free People posts with the same excitement that comes with the delivery of the newest catalog sent out for the various brands that Free People develops: Anthropologie, Free People , and Urban Outfitters. Filled with how to’s, behind the scene looks and style tips the Free People channel is a well spring of inspiration for the most distinguishing urban sophisticate. Head over and have a look with your morning coffee, I promise, you won’t be disappointed!
